On the eve of Juneteenth, we pause to recognize the resilience of African Americans as we continue along the path to full liberation. With the likely passage of guaranteed income through the District Child Tax Credit in the DC Budget Support Act, as well as restoration of funding to critical measures for Black people and allied communities, there is room for continued hope that have sustained Black people and their descendants for generations. Just as the war to end chattel slavery was, the battle for economic freedom is a long but critical one to wage, year after year, decade after decade, century after century. That is until the war is won. Guaranteed income policies center our journey and light the road, we believe, to this long-denied economic freedom.
On Juneteenth, we wish you a spirit-filled celebration with reflection and joy through meditation on accomplishments we have won as a people and as our allies.
