POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Part Time, Temporary Social Worker
Mother’s Outreach Network (MON), a nonprofit organization located in Washington, D.C., seeks to fill a temporary, part-time social worker position. The six-month position is contractual, involving up to 20 hours per month.
ABOUT MOTHER’S OUTREACH NETWORK
Mother’s Outreach Network (MON) is a nonprofit organization that advances and centers the inclusion and empowerment of Black mothers in Washington, DC in the struggle for family preservation. MON is a constituency-driven organization dedicated to family preservation. Through organizing, community lawyering, and policy advocacy, MON transforms, from punitive to supportive, government income and child welfare systems, laws, policies, practices, and culture.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Working closely with MON’s Executive Director and staff attorneys, the social worker’s primary duties are to:
- support MON attorneys by interviewing and listening to individual clients who need an opportunity to talk through mitigating circumstances relevant to their immediate legal issues;
- evaluate clients’ needs for additional resources beyond legal services, such as cash assistance, health insurance (i.e. Affordable Care Act or Children’s Health Insurance Program), food assistance, housing, and/or no cost early childhood education;
- develop casework plans in conjunction with the attorneys for help clients apply for additional benefits and/or services beyond the scope of legal services;
- facilitate a monthly “mother’s support group” to inform MON of pressing issues regarding greater focus and additional direct legal service, advocacy, and/or organizing strategies to reform programs meant to keep families whole, stable, and economically secure.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
A strong candidate will bring the following experience, education, and personal attributes to the position.
- A bachelor’s degree in social work (BSW) from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education is the minimum educational requirement. MSW and DSW students are encouraged to apply.
- A Licensed Social Work Associate license. ·
- Professional social work practice through classroom learning and hands-on experience.
- A strong knowledge of public benefits and support services available to clients in need and how and where to apply for such services.
- Familiarity with Washington D.C.’s child welfare system and guaranteed child tax credit laws.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Understanding of and commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity values. Enthusiasm to learn, take direction, and accept constructive feedback.
- Must live in the Washington, D.C.
COMPENSATION
MON offers a contractual wage of $35 per hour. Monthly timesheets are required detailing tasks as well as time.
