ABOUT MOTHER’S OUTREACH NETWORK

Mother’s Outreach Network (MON) is a bold, audacious, and independent advocacy organization that advances and centers the inclusion and empowerment of Black mothers in Washington, DC in the struggle for family preservation by transforming
government income and family regulation/child welfare systems, laws, policies and practices from punitive to empowering. We do so through organizing, community lawyering, and policy advocacy.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Lead Organizer plays a pivotal role in planning, coordinating, and supporting the organization’s policy proposals and campaigns, organizing the community and partners to achieve those campaign goals, and fostering partnerships to support mothers in navigating legal challenges. This role will help our small senior leadership team and our top volunteer leaders analyze our current advocacy and organizing structures and build new systems and organizing models to make us stronger. Strong applicants will be able to demonstrate their ability to organize and win using a variety of tactics, including grassroots organizing, leading and managing
coalitions, and managing research and public advocacy. Experience leading organizing and advocacy campaigns in Washington, DC is highly preferred.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Organizing and Partnership Development:
● Lead community-organizing efforts in support of public campaigns.
● Organize MON volunteer leaders to effectively participate in campaigns and coalition/partnership efforts. Build their leadership and skills.
● Coordinate with outside advocacy partners, participate in and manage coalitions as necessary.
● Assist in and support the delivery of the Mother Up Pilot program, including supporting program participants.
● Build relationships with program participants to understand how to better collaborate and support.
● Develop community partnerships to support MON clients, campaigns, and broader goals.

Campaign Strategy:
● Develop strategies for campaigns to support policy priorities in partnership with the
Executive Director
● Build relationships and plans for community organizing to achieve campaign goals.
● Implement the campaign strategy, evaluate progress to achieve goals, and continuously learn what is, and is not being effective.

Policy Analysis and Advocacy:
● Research and analyze policy issues affecting mothers and families, particularly in the areas of economic mobility, healthcare access, and family law.
● Coordinate policy communications, attendance, and resource follow-up for research and advocacy activities and workshops.
● Monitor legislative and policy developments at local, state, and federal levels related to maternal rights and family justice.
● Draft research memos, policy briefs, and advocacy materials to support MON’s policy initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS 

● Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as social work, public administration, or nonprofit management. Applicants with qualified experience in place of a bachelor’s degree will be reviewed.
● Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize competing demands effectively.
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer service-oriented approach.
● Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and quality in all tasks.
● Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
● 5-7 years of advocacy or policy experience needed.
● Flexible, positive, and passionate about Mother’s Outreach Network’s mission and values.

COMPENSATION

This is a full-time salaried position, and the salary range is high $80k to low $90k per year, commensurate with experience. A health, dental and vision benefits package is provided: and the premiums covered by 100% for the employee and is available to dependents. All federal holidays and all holidays observed by the District of Columbia are observed, as well as the week between Christmas and New Year.  The recognized holidays are listed below.
