Mother’s Outreach Network is a racial justice and antipoverty organization that supports Black mothers in advancing Black family preservation, economic security, and racial justice by transforming government income and child welfare laws, policies, and practices from punitive to empowering.
Guaranteed Income
We convene the DC Guaranteed Income Coalition, which organizes outreach, education and advocacy on Guaranteed Income programs in Washington DC.
Child Welfare
About 23% of children in DC live below a basic standard of living. Passing the District Child Tax Credit Amendment Act of 2023 & the Financial Support for Families with Children Act of 2023 would address this. In 2020, according to the US Health and Human Services Child Maltreatment Report, nearly 9 out of 10 open cases at CFSA involved neglect. This neglect includes poverty factors
Mother UP Pilot
The Mother Up pilot is a guaranteed income pilot in Washington DC, run by Mother’s Outreach Network. The pilot is for mothers involved in the child welfare system. Recruitment begins in March 2024. If you think you or someone you know is eligible for this program, please have them fill out the eligibility screener, which you will receive by emailing us at pilot@mothersoutreachnetwork.org..
